DJ Lyf began his musical journey in Chicago by his fiirst exposure to House Music from his family in the mid 1980's. Lyf then began travelling to the East Coast of the United States and while in New Jersey was inspired by family members who were expert Dj's spinning an eclectic array of music including Soul, Funk, Hip Hop, R&B, Early House, Reggae Roots, Jazz, Blues, 70's Dance Music, Afro Beat, and African American Classics. This dazzlling array of musical styles and the techique in which they were mixed and combined was also coupled with a philosophy of Unity, Creative Leisure, and Freedom.
Lyf then brought that state of mind with him to California.
Lyf then settled in Pasadena California, a suburb of Los Angeles also known as Dena. Although Lyf travelled freqently between the east and west coast, it is Dena that became the true home for Lyf from thoughout his younger years. Being Bi-Coastal, Lyf witnessed the full scope of the rapid evolution of music that occoured in the 1980's and 90's.
As a young man, musical inspiration grew and Lyf aquired a profound love for DJing utilizing vinyl records and became the cornerstone of Lyf's developmental years as an Electronic Musician and Producer. Always searching for new avenues to express the philosophy and techniques that he is continusly refining, Lyf then relocated to Venice, California where he is currently DJing and producing music spanning avast array of genres.
As a producer Lyf employs the use of Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Reason, Ableton Live, FLP, MPC, ASR-10, SP-1200, and Live Instrumentalists to compose, arrange, rework, and remix. An expert Sound Engineer, within the field of Post Production, Lyf is proficient in the use of all devices to master and refine audio recordings and process them into a completed music product. These abilities include Pro Tools, Vocal Recording, Mastering, Multi-track Mixing, Mix downs, EFX spotting, Midi Recording, Editing, Loop Construction, Sequencing, Studio Management, Sound Supervision for live performance as well as Engineering and Recording.
Lyf has also produced musical projects for Film and Multi-Media Production for a variety of production companies. Working extensivly in the entertainment industry, Lyf has Composed music for award winning films, videos, and artists. With his sight set toward positive participation and social conciousness, Lyf is regularly active with charities and causes as well as taking part in the establishment of some of the most infuential musical venues in the country.
